The Mézières Method is not a postural technique, nor a global approach: it is a therapeutic discipline based on systemic musculoskeletal biomechanics, applying the laws of linear and non-linear physics to the behavior of myofascial units.
Developed in 1947 by French physiotherapist Françoise Mézières, the method is grounded in the observation that the problem is not muscular weakness, but the shortening of muscle fibers, especially in their connective tissue components. This shortening leads to joint misalignments, vertebral compression, and pathological muscular substitutions.
Systemic biomechanical interpretation
The body functions as a complex system in which all myofascial units interact and influence each other. No action is ever isolated: every local adaptation triggers a global reorganization.
Analysis of shortened muscular vectors
Connective tissue shortening generates resistant forces that disrupt joint alignment and compress structures. The shortening of just a few key vectors can destabilize the entire system.
Observation of dynamic patterns and emergent abilities
During movement, the body often compensates by replacing monoarticular muscles with muscle groups organized into force couples that are more efficient from a mechanical and entropic standpoint. While adaptive in the short term, these substitutions disrupt physiological dynamics and create the conditions for dysfunction.
Il Metodo Mézières ti insegna a osservare oltre il sintomo, a cogliere la logica nascosta nei compensi, a trattare ciò che ha bisogno di essere liberato – non domato.
The clinical work focuses on:
Identifying primary shortened muscular vectors
Differentiating between primary and secondary shortening (e.g. of visceral, occlusal, or skeletal origin)
Restoring articular and morphological balance
Releasing substituted muscles blocked by chronic compensations
The method uses isometric contractions in maximal physiological or relative elongation, guided by diaphragmatic breathing and proprioceptive control.
The Mézières Method works at the edge of chaos — the zone of highest adaptive potential in complex systems. Here, the muscular system regains efficiency, responsiveness, and dynamic equilibrium.
It does not seek to impose an "ideal" posture, but to liberate the body from the internal forces that distort its form and function over time.
AIFiMM offers a training program rooted in this scientific and systemic framework.
Each participant learns to:
analyze the body through a vector-based and systemic lens
move beyond symptom-based, segmented, or protocol-driven approaches
develop an individualized clinical reasoning model, grounded in biomechanics and functional adaptation
The result is a deep transformation of clinical practice and diagnostic perspective.

AIFiMM instructors don’t simply teach a method — they guide participants through a radical shift in how the body is observed and treated.
All instructors have extensive clinical and teaching experience in systemic biomechanical re-education and trained directly with Françoise Mézières. They later contributed to the scientific rationalization and evolution of the method.
Today, the AIFiMM teaching team is dedicated to transmitting:
the vectorial logic of muscular shortening
the analysis of substitution patterns and adaptive strategies of the musculoskeletal system
the clinical use of isometric contractions in maximal elongation to restore the body's dynamic equilibrium
Each instructor works closely with students, offering personalized feedback, direct supervision, and advanced tools for morpho-functional analysis.
To truly grasp the scientific and clinical relevance of the Mézières Method, it’s essential to explore the foundational concepts behind it: the biomechanics of deformable bodies, the vectorial logic of muscular retractions, the analysis of emergent motor patterns, and the systemic approach to treatment.

The Mézières Method is not a set of exercises or a corrective technique — it is a clinical reasoning model that explains how the shortening of myofascial units alters body morphology, disorganizes joint structures, and leads to vertebral compression.
Throughout the course, you will develop:
A vectorial biomechanical perspective to identify shortened muscles responsible for joint misalignments
The ability to analyze dynamic patterns, distinguishing between substituted and substituting muscles
The foundations of differential diagnosis between primary muscular shortenings and secondary ones caused by the stomatognathic system, visceral system, skeletal asymmetries, or oculomotor influences
Clinical application of isometric contractions in maximal physiological or relative elongation to reduce resistant force and restore working force
A new level of observational and proprioceptive sensitivity to guide the body toward adaptive function — at the edge of chaos
🔎 In summary: you will learn to treat not the symptom, but the system that produced it — through a morphological and functional reorganization based on physical and physiological laws.
The Mézières Method is particularly effective when musculoskeletal dysfunctions are caused by morphological alterations related to myofascial retractions, articular compression, or vectorial disorganization of the muscular system.
Rather than treating the symptom, it intervenes on the systemic biomechanical cause.
Functional or structural scoliosis
Hyperlordosis and thoracic kyphosis
Low back pain, sciatica, radiculopathy, disc compression
Osteoarthritis, including coxarthrosis
Subacromial impingement syndromes
Temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ dysfunctions)
Torticollis, cervical, thoracic or lumbar stiffness
Recurrent or persistent myalgia
Post-traumatic muscular imbalances or immobilization-related adaptations
Genu varum / genu valgum
Flat foot / high arch
Hallux valgus
Pelvic asymmetries and lower limb misalignments
📌 In all these cases, the Mézières Method works on the muscular forces shaping body morphology, restoring joint alignment, freedom of movement, and reducing chronic symptoms.
